What We Know About Excercise

Well, our Family Fitness Challenge ended last week with the prize money being awarded on Thanksgiving. It was neck-and-neck right up to the end. Coming off of a couple of bad weeks for  me, I decided I really needed to step-it-up for our team. That worked. We won. But here is what we learned from this challenge that began mid-July.

It's hard work. Duh! It's hard work that didn't really pay off. Or maybe it did. The challenge got everybody moving. But surprisingly, little weight loss happened. To go from little movement and exercise to full out should have produced better results. It didn't.

We're starting up the challenge again in January with a few changes. This time, we're going to add a food component. Along with exercise and step points, we'll get a point for drinking 8 glasses of water each day and eating 5 servings of fruits and vegetables. We're not going to get bogged down in what comprises a serving. We're just going to do it.

Exercise and healthy eating is the plan. We'll see how that works out.

  1. Congrats on the team win! Regardless of weight loss, I'm sure that extra movement has other health benefits for y'all as a family!

  2. Have you seen the documentary "The Truth about Exercise"? It pointed out that several types of body aren't going to lose significant amounts of visible fat - but the bodies will still be healthier and the more dangerous fat - around internal organs will go down.

Wookie and I remind ourselves of that as we try to be healthier...
